Celebrating the Journey Together

Theme: Celebrating the Journey Together

Today is the day that the Commonwealth of Dominica Celebrates 30 years as an Independent Nation. Reunion 2008 - an opportunity for reunion, reflection, renewal and recommitment to the quest for progress and development for the Nature Island.
Dominica received its independence from Britain on November 3rd 1978.
Every year, the country commemorates this date with a season of cultural activities which can last as long as four weeks. These celebrations portray vivid examples of the island's cultural influences.
The traditional dances display European traces in Hill & Toe, Waltz, and Quadrille; and borrow from African native dances in Bèlè. This mélange of Creole culture predominates at this time of year, as villages and communities throughout the island compete to show their superiority in preserving and developing different cultural expressions.Certain days, such as Kwèyòl Day, Heritage Day, and National Day promote different aspects of the island's cultural heritage. The government also holds parades and rallies for all to express their allegiance to the country. READ MORE

Bakes for Breakfast

7. Fill up on bakes for breakfast

Recipe:
2 cups of Flour (White/Wheat)
1 oz. Butter
1 cup Water
½ tsp. Salt
1 cup Cooking Oil
Mix flour, butter, and salt together in a cooking bowl. Add half a cup of water to the mix, and then use your hand to knead the flour.

The flour will look like crumbs; when this happens add a little water each time, and knead until the dough is made and the water is finished.

If you need to add a little bit more water do so, but do not let the dough get sappy and soft.

Now tear off pieces of dough about the size of a golf ball and place them in the same bowl for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, go ahead and do whatever else you have to do to past the time.

Come back and take the golf ball size pieces of dough and roll them between your palms to make them feel smooth. If you are right-handed, use the right heel of your palm to press the piece of dough until it is flat.
Heat the cooking oil in the skillet, and fry dough pieces until cooked golden brown.

Lovely Sleeping Weather We're Having

This is my weather channel, it's usually accurate. This afternoon it's says "The weather forecast for tonight will be scattered showers throughout the evening along with some lightning and thunder" which means, I'll be sleepinglike a baby with the sound of the rain hitting the neighbour's roof with a bit of a shock now and then from the grumbling of the old man called Thunder.
To confirm the weather channel's predictions, I just heard my father say, "A serious shower going to come down there tongiht wi boy"(in Dominican dialect and lingo).

Just in case

In case you didn't believe me when I said that you can find the most marvelous views almost anywhere......here's the proof ;) I can't remember which village I took these photos from, but they were taken on my way to possie (i.e. Postsmouth, in the north of the island).

Sister Sister

A new sister site has just been developed by yours truly. Don't be mistaken though, I'm only the spawn of the tour guide, who's in charge of the blog and any other advertising medium. Anyhoo... DON'T FORGET TO CHECK IT OUT, it's still in the developmental stage but I promise you, it's going to be great just like AN ISLANDER'S GALLERY.

It's called Shalom Tours
